Education:
I received my Bachelors of Science in
Accountancy in December, 1991 from Northern Illinois University in
DeKalb, Illinois.
In May of 1998 I was
awarded my Masters of Science in Taxation from DePaul University in
Chicago, Illinois.
Experience:
During my career, I have prepared and reviewed corporate,
partnership and individual federal and state tax returns in all
areas, including the real estate industry. I've managed
several clients and personnel. For a number of years I
identified, researched and resolved potential tax issues for
clients. I've provided consultation services to clients as to
the tax implications of transactions including like-kind exchanges,
mergers and liquidations.
At
this juncture in my career I've had years of experience interacting
with the Internal Revenue Service and Illinois Department of Revenue
regarding tax notices and inquiries. I'm experienced as liaison
between clients and the Internal Revenue Service agents and Illinois
Department of Revenue agents during audits and information requests
by those agencies. I'm also experience in preparing Offers in
Compromise and appeals to the Illinois Department of Revenue for
corporate, partnership and individual clients with income and
payroll tax issues.
I've
also developed numerous continuing professional education courses
for colleagues and other “alliance” tax firms.
High
School & College:
My
father, who is from Greece, sent me to 9 years of Greek parochial
school where I learned to speak Greek fluently and graduated
Valedictorian in a class of 36. It was at Amos Alonzo Stagg
H.S. in my Junior year where I had my first class in Accounting. It
was taught by the Football coach so I took took it along with my
fellow Pom Pon girls, cheerleaders, and the football players. I
really liked the class and that's when I decided to pursue
accounting.
I studied at Northern Illinois University for four and one half
years. In my Sophomore year I pledged Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and
lived in the sorority house my junior year and senior years. I
served as house Treasurer for one of those years. I studied for the
CPA exam and interviewed during my last semester and was hired by
Shore and Azimov, an insurance loss accounting firm specializing in
business loss accounting.
I
then attended DePaul for my Masters in Taxation Degree and met a
manager from Ernst and Young. I worked there for three years but in
my last class, I met a partner with Gleeson, Sklar, Sawyers and
Cumpata – a mid-size accounting firm in Elgin. I was there for 7
years.
